Arcana, Cantar De Procella (Cold Meat Industry, (1997)

Among the many "illegitimate children" of the immense Dead Can Dance, Peter Pettersson of the Swedish Arcana (arranger, instrumentalist and singer) are undoubtedly to be included in the group of the most talented and finest representatives of that sound that marries gothic atmosphere, medieval charm and lieder and austere neoclassical beauty.

In 1993, Petterson, who will later be known as Peter Bjärgö, gives life to the project, but immediately feel the need for a female voice to better express his scores "heavenly." It is thus engaged Ida Bengtsson, singer from the registry typically "dark", which becomes a sort of Scandinavian equivalent of Tara Vanflower of Lycia.

The Arcane debut for the label Cold Meat Industry with the song "And Even Wolves Hid Their Teeth", which is a prelude output, dated 1996 album Dark Age Of Reason. The dominant theme is dark and medieval atmosphere, grandiloquent tones, alternating art to the grave voice of the heavenly Petterson and Ida Bengtsson. Martial drums, polyphonic choirs, death knell become the hallmarks of a sound that lies somewhere between Dead Can Dance and In The Nursery. Also noteworthy are the arrangements, which combine the coolness of futuristic keyboards with the pathos "archaic" for oboe, clarinet, piano and percussion.
